DIRECTIONS:

Michael Billings' Kenpo Karate and the Academy of Martial Arts are located in North Austin.  The school is approximately 12 minutes from the University of Texas, and 15 minutes from downtown.  We are located between the Duval and Oak Knoll Exits, off Highway 183 (Research Blvd.), on the southbound access roadWe are in the professional building between Dunkin Donuts and Brake Check.  Located in the same building are the Emergency After Hours Animal Hospital, SureCom, and Best Price Banners & Signs.  It is across 183 from the entrance to the Riata Apartments.  Turn into the first driveway immediately past the entrance to Dunkin DonutsParking and the main school entrance are in the rear of the building, near the end.

Class Structure Overview
All classes include the following:
    • Stretching - static; ballistic; and partner.
    • Calisthenics - jumping jacks; push-ups; sit-ups; calf raises; squat kicks; etc.
    • Circuit Training - kenpo basics, boxing, & kickboxing combinations, bag work, kicking shields, focus mitts, etc.
    • Kenpo Drills - parries; maneuvers; stances; freestyle basics; elbows; buckles; sweeps; checking; breaks; locks; contact manipulation; etc.
    • Self-Defense Techniques, Forms (Kata), Sets, or Weapons - Focus is on one of the primary areas of training each class.

KENPO KICKBOXING CLASS
Non-school members welcome with instructor approval
(Mat fee required)

Saturday Mornings 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.

Required equipment:
  • 16 oz. Boxing Gloves & Tape
  • Shin/Instep Pads
  • Groin Protector
  • Mouthpiece
  • Headgear

We are fortunate to have a special instructor with us for this class, Mr. Glenn Haley.

Glenn has had a healthy point-fighting career and has fought as a member of the John Sepulveda USA Fight Team in Denmark (1999) and Ireland (2001). He has also competed several times at the famous International Karate Championships held in Long Beach, CA. Mr. Haley has also been actively kickboxing for the last 6 years and is currently ranked 7th in the world by International Kickboxing Federation (IKF). He has an official fight record of 5-1-1 (w/ 4 KOs) and over 8 full-contact kickboxing bouts under his belt. Some of the most notable have included fights at the IKF US National Championships in 2003, two separate bouts for the California Lt. Heavyweight Championship title, and an appearance in "Strikeforce" Kickboxing often televised on ESPN2.


SPARRING
Alternating Saturdays & Advanced Classes:
    • Freestyle Sparring
    • Continuous Sparring 
    • Street Sparring
    • Tournament Sparring (Tournament not emphasized)


    Sparring gear required on Saturdays!

    Street Sparring with controlled, limited contact, and no gear (in advanced classes only.)

***  Mouthpieces and Groin Protectors are required equipment  -  Juniors must wear headgear ***
Family classes are one hour (1:00) long & are open to parents & children from ages 7 and up.
Adult classes are an hour and a half (1:30) long.
Content varies from class to class.

    • 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Open Mat Adult Class   ( All Belt Levels )
THURSDAY
    • 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Family Class ( All Belt Levels )
    • 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Adult Class   ( Beginning & Intermediate )
    • 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Advanced Class  ( Intermediate & Advanced )
SATURDAY
    • 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Kenpo Kickboxing ( All Belt Levels )*
    • 11:00 - 12:00 p.m. Adult Adult Class ( All Belt Levels )

    ** Sparring may also be included in the curriculum of Advanced Classes and Open Mat time.  Check with instructor regarding scheduled classes.

 
Specialty Classes include weapons, groundwork, contact manipulation, grafting, etc.  Or are available upon request. Private Lessons, Test Reviews, or Group Classes may also be scheduled.
